Deutzia crenata var. heterotricha, commonly known as Fuzzy Deutzia, is a deciduous shrub native to the forested hillsides, thickets, and mountain regions of Japan. It exhibits a moderate growth rate and typically reaches a height of 6-10 feet (1.8-3 meters) with a similar spread of 4-8 feet (1.2-2.4 meters). The plant is characterized by its arching branches and exfoliating bark, which adds textural interest, especially in the winter. During spring and early summer, it produces clusters of fragrant, showy flowers that are white to pink in color, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.

Fuzzy Deutzia is valued for its ornamental flowers and its ability to adapt to a range of garden settings. It is often used in border plantings, as a specimen in residential gardens, or incorporated into mixed shrub borders for its seasonal interest. This shrub is relatively low-maintenance, requiring only occasional pruning to maintain its shape and promote vigorous flowering. It thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soils, including clay, loam, or sandy types.
