Summary

Disporopsis aspersa, commonly known as Evergreen Solomon’s Seal, is an evergreen perennial herb native to the understory of moist, shaded woodlands in South-Central China. It typically grows to a height of 2 feet (0.6 meters) and a width of 1 foot (0.3 meters). This plant features arching stems with alternate, glossy, lance-shaped leaves. In late spring to early summer, small, bell-shaped, white flowers with green tips dangle beneath the leaves, followed by black berries in the fall. The flowers are subtly showy and add a delicate charm to the garden.

Evergreen Solomon’s Seal is valued for its year-round foliage and its ability to thrive in shady conditions, making it an excellent ground cover for woodland gardens, shaded borders, and naturalized areas. It is also used in container plantings for shaded patios. This plant prefers consistently moist, well-drained soils rich in organic matter and thrives in part to full shade. It is relatively low maintenance and is not known to suffer from serious pest or disease problems. However, it can be susceptible to slug damage. Evergreen Solomon’s Seal is not typically invasive but can spread to form colonies if conditions are ideal.CC BY-SA 4.0
