Summary
Drosanthemum floribundum, commonly known as Round-leafed Dewplant, is a succulent perennial herb native to rocky slopes and sandy plains in the Cape of South Africa. It has become naturalized in parts of Portugal and Australia, including South Australia, Western Australia, and Victoria. The plant typically forms dense mats with its trailing, hairy stems and succulent leaves, which are either cylindrical or triangular in cross-section and measure between 3 and 15 mm in length and 1 to 2.5 mm in width. The Round-leafed Dewplant blooms profusely with flowers up to 2.5 cm in diameter, showcasing shades of lavender, pink, or occasionally white, from late winter to spring, adding a splash of color to the landscape.
The plant is valued for its drought tolerance and vibrant floral display, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, ground cover, and xeriscaping. It is also suitable for coastal gardens due to its salt tolerance. Round-leafed Dewplant thrives in full sun and requires minimal water once established, preferring well-drained soils. It is relatively low-maintenance but should be protected from frost in colder climates. While generally pest-free, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
