Estimated Native Range
Summary
Echeveria colorata, commonly known as Red Top Queen, is an evergreen perennial succulent native to the rocky outcrops and semi-desert regions of Southwestern Mexico. It forms a striking rosette of fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves that can grow up to 40 centimeters (16 inches) in diameter. The leaves are often a pale blue-green with a hint of pink or red at the tips, giving it a distinctive appearance. Echeveria colorata blooms in the summer and fall, producing pink, bell-shaped flowers on tall stalks that rise above the foliage, adding to its ornamental value.
The Red Top Queen is valued for its low maintenance requirements and its ability to withstand drought. It is a popular choice for rock gardens, succulent collections, and as a potted plant, especially in areas where outdoor cultivation is limited by cold temperatures. It thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-draining soil. While it is tolerant of dry conditions, it benefits from occasional watering during extended dry periods. This succulent is not cold-hardy and should be protected from frost, requiring indoor protection in cooler temperate regions. It is susceptible to root rot if overwatered or if the soil does not drain well.CC BY-SA 4.0
