Summary

Echeveria harmsii, commonly known as Red Echeveria or Plush Plant, is an evergreen succulent native to semi-desert habitats in Central Mexico. It typically grows to a height and width of 0.5-1 feet (0.2-0.3 meters), forming rosettes of fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves that are covered in fine hairs, giving it a velvety texture. The leaves are green with red tips, which become more pronounced under stress or sun exposure. Echeveria harmsii produces bell-shaped flowers in shades of yellow, orange, pink, and red, primarily in the spring and summer, with some blooming into winter. The flowers are quite showy and attract pollinators such as hummingbirds.

Red Echeveria is valued for its ornamental foliage and vibrant flowers. It is commonly used in rock gardens, container plantings, and as a ground cover in xeriscaped areas. This plant is well-suited to cultivation in dry, Mediterranean-type climates and is relatively low-maintenance, requiring minimal watering. It thrives in well-draining soil and prefers full sun to part shade. While generally pest-resistant, it can be susceptible to mealybugs and overwatering can lead to root rot. Echeveria harmsii is not frost-tolerant and should be protected from freezing temperatures.CC BY-SA 4.0
