Estimated Native Range
Summary
Echeveria runyonii, commonly known as Silver Spoons Echeveria, is an evergreen succulent plant native to rocky outcrops and cliffs in Northeastern Mexico. It forms a rosette typically 8–10 cm (3.1–3.9 in) in diameter, with spoon-shaped, silvery-blue leaves that can take on a pinkish tint in strong light. The inflorescences, which appear in late summer to fall, are 15–20 cm (5.9–7.9 in) tall and bear clusters of bell-shaped red flowers with ascending-spreading sepals up to 11 mm long, which are quite showy against the foliage. This plant is particularly noted for its attractive leaf coloration and sculptural form.
Silver Spoons Echeveria is valued for its drought tolerance and is often used in rock gardens, container plantings, and as ground cover in xeriscaped areas. It requires minimal maintenance, making it a favorite among gardeners with dry or rocky soils. In cultivation, it thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-draining soils. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it is important to allow the soil to dry out between waterings. While it is generally pest-free, mealybugs and aphids can occasionally be a problem.CC BY-SA 4.0
