Echinodorus floribundus, commonly known as Ruffled Sword, Many-Flowered Amazon Sword, or Ruffle-Leaf Sword, is a perennial herb that is native to the shallow waters of wetlands and riverbanks in South America, particularly in Brazil. It typically grows at a moderate rate to a height and width of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters). This aquatic plant features a rosette of broad leaves that can vary in color from green to reddish-brown, with ruffled edges that give it its common name. The white flowers, which bloom in the summer, are held above the water on long stalks and are quite showy, adding to the plant’s ornamental value.

Ruffled Sword is valued for its lush foliage and flowers, which make it a popular choice for water gardens and aquariums. It is also used in paludariums, a type of vivarium that incorporates both terrestrial and aquatic elements. Echinodorus floribundus requires high humidity and can be grown emersed or submerged. When cultivated in an aquarium, it prefers soft to moderately hard water, with a pH of 6.5 to 7.5, and temperatures between 22-28°C (72-82°F). It is a heavy feeder, so regular fertilization is beneficial.
