Estimated Native Range
Summary
Erica manipuliflora, commonly known as the Spring Heath, is an evergreen shrub native to a variety of habitats including maquis, phrygana, open pine forest areas, and rocky slopes in the Mediterranean region. It is found in countries such as Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Cyprus, East Thrace, Greece, Italy, Lebanon, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey, and Syria. This plant typically grows to a height of 0.5 to 1 meter and has a similar spread. Spring Heath is characterized by its dense, bushy habit and small, needle-like leaves. The flowers are small, urn-shaped, and usually pink, blooming in clusters from late winter to early spring, providing early season interest in the garden.
Erica manipuliflora is valued for its long flowering period and evergreen foliage, which adds year-round interest to gardens. It is often used in rock gardens, as ground cover, and in borders. This shrub prefers well-drained, acidic soil and thrives in full sun to partial shade. It is relatively low maintenance but benefits from occasional pruning to maintain its shape and encourage denser growth. While generally disease-resistant, it can suffer from root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
