Summary

Erigeron foliosus, commonly known as Leafy Fleabane, is a semi-deciduous perennial herb native to the chaparral and coastal sage scrub of California and the northern part of Baja California in Northwestern Mexico. It typically grows to a height of 1-3 feet (0.3-0.9 meters) and a width of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters), with a mounding form that can spread to form a dense ground cover. Leafy Fleabane produces numerous daisy-like flowers with white petals surrounding a yellow center, blooming profusely from late spring to early fall, adding a long-lasting display of color to the garden.

This plant is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in poor, rocky soils, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and naturalistic plantings. It is often used in borders, rock gardens, and as a ground cover. Leafy Fleabane is also beneficial for attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. In cultivation, it requires minimal maintenance, preferring full sun to part shade and well-drained soils. While generally disease-free, it can occasionally suffer from mildew or rust in humid conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
