Summary

Erigeron tracyi, commonly known as Running Fleabane, is an evergreen perennial herb native to open woodlands, meadows, and prairies in the Southwestern USA and Northern Mexico. It typically grows up to 45 centimeters (17 inches) tall and produces an unbranched underground caudex. The leaves are narrowly oblanceolate, reaching up to 13 cm (5 inches) long. The inflorescence consists of 1-60 flower heads per stem, arranged loosely. Each head features 60–120 blue, white, or pale lavender ray florets encircling numerous yellow disc florets, blooming from late spring to early fall. The flowers are modest in size but can be quite showy en masse.

Running Fleabane is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in less fertile soils, making it a suitable choice for xeriscaping and naturalized areas. It is often used in wildflower gardens, borders, and as ground cover. This species prefers full sun to part shade and requires medium amounts of water with well-draining soil. While generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to powdery mildew and should be spaced adequately to promote air circulation.CC BY-SA 4.0
