Summary
Eriocapitella ×hybrida, commonly known as Japanese Anemone, is a deciduous perennial herb native to open woodlands and grassy slopes in China. It typically grows to a height of 2-4 feet and a width of 2-3 feet. The plant has a clumping form and produces a profusion of showy flowers that can be blue, pink, purple, red, or white, blooming from late summer into fall. The flowers are held above the foliage on wiry stems, adding a light, airy feel to the garden.
Japanese Anemone is valued for its late-season blooms and ability to add color to the garden when many other plants have finished flowering. It is often used in border plantings, cottage gardens, and urban gardens due to its ease of maintenance and attractive blooms. While it prefers full sun to part shade, it is adaptable to a range of light conditions. It requires medium amounts of water and thrives in well-drained soil. Japanese Anemone can spread via rhizomes, sometimes aggressively, which should be considered when planting. It can be susceptible to foliar diseases such as powdery mildew and rust, especially in humid conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
