Erythranthe suksdorfii, commonly known as Suksdorf’s monkeyflower or miniature monkeyflower, is an annual herb native to moist meadows, streambanks, and wetland edges in the western United States, including Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. It thrives at elevations ranging from 430 to 7,090 feet. This plant typically grows to a modest height of 4 to 16 inches (10 to 40 cm) and features lance-shaped leaves. The flowers, which bloom from mid-April to July, are characterized by their bright yellow petals with contrasting red spots, creating a striking display that is particularly attractive to pollinators such as bees.

Suksdorf’s monkeyflower is valued for its vibrant flowers and its ability to thrive in wet environments, making it a suitable choice for water gardens, rain gardens, and areas with natural or artificial water features. It is also used for restoration projects in its native range due to its preference for moist, well-drained soils. Gardeners should provide consistent moisture and plant in a location with full sun to part shade to mimic its natural habitat conditions.
