Summary
Eucalyptus gregsoniana, commonly known as Wolgan Snow Gum, is an evergreen tree or mallee native to the montane and subalpine regions of the Blue Mountains in New South Wales, Australia. It is a smaller species of Eucalyptus, typically growing to a height of 3-13 feet (0.9-4 meters) and a width of 3-10 feet (0.9-3 meters), with a multi-stemmed habit that forms a dense, bushy crown. The bark is smooth and can range from white to pale grey, often with patches of green or yellow. Adult leaves are lance-shaped to curved, providing a lush, evergreen appearance. From November to December, it produces clusters of seven to eleven flower buds, leading to showy white flowers that are attractive to birds and insects. The fruit is cup-shaped, hemispherical, or conical, adding to the plant’s ornamental value.
Wolgan Snow Gum is valued for its striking bark, compact size, and the beautiful display of white flowers in the spring. It is well-suited for small gardens, rockeries, and as a container plant due to its manageable size. In cultivation, it prefers full sun to part shade and thrives in well-drained soils. It is drought-tolerant once established, requiring only low amounts of water. This species is also frost-tolerant, making it suitable for cooler climates. While it is generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to eucalyptus gall wasp and other pests common to Eucalyptus species.CC BY-SA 4.0
