Estimated Native Range
Summary
Eucalyptus parvula, commonly known as Small-Leaved Gum, is an evergreen tree endemic to the tablelands and slopes of the Southern Tablelands and adjacent areas of the South West Slopes in New South Wales, Australia. It is a species of small tree that typically grows to a height of 10–15 m (33–49 ft) with a compact crown. The tree is noted for its distinctive bark that sheds in strips to reveal a smooth, white or grey surface. Flowering occurs from January to March in its native range, and the flowers are white and relatively inconspicuous. The fruit is a woody, cup-shaped capsule that adds to its ornamental value.
Small-Leaved Gum is valued for its compact, rounded shape with branches close to the ground, making it an ideal specimen plant for small gardens. It is also suitable for cold, damp situations and is relatively resistant to pests and diseases, which makes it a low-maintenance option for gardeners. In the UK, it has received the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit, indicating its excellence for garden use. This tree is often used in urban plantings, as a windbreak, and for its attractive bark and foliage. It thrives in full sun and adapts to a range of soil types, provided they have good drainage. While it tolerates low water conditions, occasional deep watering is beneficial during prolonged dry periods.CC BY-SA 4.0
