Summary

Eucalyptus platypus, commonly known as Round-Leaved Moort, is an evergreen tree native to the woodlands and plains of the Southwest of Western Australia. It typically grows to a height of 1.5–10 m (4 ft 11 in – 32 ft 10 in) and a width of 5–10 m (16–33 ft), featuring a dense, rounded crown. The bark is smooth and can be brownish or copper-colored. The leaves are broadly elliptical to round, and the flower buds are grouped in nines on a broad, flattened peduncle. Flowering occurs from September to December or from January to March, with flowers that are creamy white, occasionally yellowish-green or pinkish. The fruit is a woody, down-turned, conical capsule.

Round-Leaved Moort is valued for its fast growth and adaptability to heavy soils. It is frost and drought-resistant, tolerates waterlogging and smog, and does not form a lignotuber. Its bushy nature makes it an excellent choice for windbreaks, and its abundant flowers are beneficial for beekeepers and honey production. This species is also suitable for coppicing and responds well to pruning. In cultivation, it thrives in full sun, requires low amounts of water, and prefers soils with slow or medium drainage.CC BY-SA 4.0
