Summary
Euonymus fortunei var. radicans, commonly known as Wintercreeper, is an evergreen vine or ground cover plant native to forest floors, woodlands, and rocky areas in East Asia, including China, Japan, and Korea. It typically grows to a height of 20-40 cm and can spread widely, forming dense mats of foliage. The leaves are small, oval, and glossy green, often with white or yellow variegation in cultivated varieties. Wintercreeper blooms with inconspicuous greenish flowers in the summer, followed by seldom-seen pinkish-red fruits.
Wintercreeper is valued for its ability to cover ground quickly, providing a low-maintenance, evergreen carpet in the garden. It is used for erosion control on slopes, as a ground cover in shaded areas, and can even climb walls and trees due to its rooting stems. It thrives in a range of soil types, from clay to loam, and prefers well-drained conditions. While it tolerates partial shade, it will have the best foliage color in full sun. In cultivation, it requires little care once established, but can become invasive if not managed properly.CC BY-SA 4.0
