Summary
Euthamia graminifolia, commonly known as Flat-Top Goldentop, is a deciduous perennial herb that thrives in a variety of habitats including moist meadows, grasslands, edges of marshes, and along streambanks in Subarctic America to W. Central N. & E. Central USA. It typically grows to a height of 1 to 3 feet with a similar spread. The plant’s appearance is characterized by its thin, branching stems and long, narrow leaves that resemble grass, which is reflected in the species name. From late summer to fall, it produces numerous small, yellow flower heads in flat-topped arrays that can span up to 30 cm (1 foot) across, with each head consisting of 7–35 ray florets encircling 3–13 disc florets. The flowers are moderately showy and attract a variety of pollinators.
Flat-Top Goldentop is valued for its naturalistic appeal and ability to attract wildlife, making it a suitable choice for native plant gardens, pollinator gardens, and restoration projects. It is relatively low maintenance, requiring medium amounts of water and thriving in soils with medium to fast drainage. Full sun is preferable for optimal growth and flowering. While generally disease-free, it can occasionally suffer from rust or leaf spots. This plant can spread by rhizomes and self-seeding, potentially becoming aggressive in garden settings.CC BY-SA 4.0
