Galactia wrightii, commonly known as Wright’s Milkpea, is a perennial vine or herb that is evergreen in warmer climates and semi-deciduous in cooler areas. It is native to open woodlands, grasslands, and scrublands in the Southwestern United States and Northwest Mexico. This plant typically grows to a height and width of 2-3 feet (0.6-0.9 meters), with a sprawling habit that can cover the ground or climb over other vegetation. The flowers are small but showy, with a combination of purple, yellow, and green hues, blooming in the summer and fall. The foliage is a deep green, adding texture and color to garden settings.

Wright’s Milkpea is valued for its drought tolerance and ability to thrive in poor soils, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and naturalistic plantings. It is often used as ground cover or allowed to climb on fences and trellises. In cultivation, it requires minimal maintenance, tolerating full sun to part shade and preferring soils with good drainage.
