Goodenia perfoliata, commonly known as Goodenia, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to open woodlands, grasslands, and coastal scrublands across Australia. It typically grows at a moderate rate to a height and width of 1.6-2.3 feet (0.49-0.7 meters), forming a low, spreading mound. The plant is characterized by its bright yellow, fan-shaped flowers that are quite showy, blooming profusely in the spring and continuing into the summer. The foliage is also of interest, with leaves that are often perfoliate – the stem appears to grow through the center of the leaf.

Goodenia perfoliata is valued for its vibrant flowers and its ability to thrive in a variety of garden settings, including borders, rockeries, and as ground cover. It is particularly useful for adding color to sunny spots in the garden. While it prefers full sun to part shade, it is adaptable to a range of soil types, including clay, loam, and sandy soils, provided they have medium to fast drainage. It requires moderate watering, but once established, it can be quite drought-tolerant. This plant is not commonly associated with serious pests or diseases, making it a low-maintenance option for gardeners.
