Summary
Grevillea lavandulacea, commonly known as Lavender Grevillea, is an evergreen shrub native to the dry sclerophyll forests and coastal scrubs of Southern Australia. It typically grows to a height of 6 feet (1.8 meters) and can spread up to 9 feet (2.7 meters). Lavender Grevillea has a compact and bushy growth habit, with narrow, grey-green leaves that resemble lavender foliage, hence its common name. The plant is adorned with spider-like flowers that are a blend of red and pink, blooming profusely in the spring and winter months. These flowers are quite showy and attract nectar-feeding birds and insects.
Lavender Grevillea is valued for its drought tolerance and low maintenance requirements, making it an excellent choice for water-wise gardens. It is often used in cultivation for ornamental purposes, including as a low hedge, in mixed borders, or as a feature plant in rockeries. This shrub thrives in full sun and requires well-drained soils, preferably with a slightly acidic to neutral pH. While it is generally pest-resistant, it can be susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils. Lavender Grevillea is also frost tolerant, which adds to its versatility in different garden settings. No popular garden cultivars are noted, but the species itself is quite variable, and selection for specific flower colors is common.CC BY-SA 4.0
