Summary
Grevillea rosmarinifolia, commonly known as Rosemary Grevillea, is an evergreen shrub native to dry sclerophyll forests and coastal scrublands in southeastern Australia, including New South Wales and Victoria. It is a variable species that can range in size from a small shrub of 0.3 meters to a medium-sized shrub up to 2 meters tall, with the larger size more common in milder climates. The foliage of Grevillea rosmarinifolia is reminiscent of the herb rosemary, featuring narrow-linear, stiff leaves with sharp points and curled-under margins, measuring 0.8-3.8 cm in length and 0.7–3 mm in width. This shrub is notable for its clusters of red or pink flowers that bloom from winter to spring, offering a long flowering season. The flowers are particularly rich in nectar, making them attractive to nectar-feeding birds and insects, and are considered quite showy.
Rosemary Grevillea is valued for its drought tolerance and ornamental qualities, including its fine-textured foliage and vibrant flowers. It is well-suited for use in gardens, xeriscaping, and as a low-maintenance hedge or screen. This plant has been recognized with the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit in the UK. For optimal growth, it requires full sun exposure, minimal water once established, and well-drained soils. While it is generally pest and disease resistant, it can be susceptible to root rot in poorly drained conditions. Rosemary Grevillea is not known for aggressive roots or significant disease issues, making it a reliable choice for residential landscapes.CC BY-SA 4.0
