Summary
Grevillea sericea, commonly known as Pink Spider Flower, is an evergreen shrub native to the sandy soils of heathland and open forest in the coastal regions of New South Wales, Australia. It typically grows to a height of 3-6 feet (0.9-1.8 meters) and a width of 3 feet (0.9 meters). The Pink Spider Flower has narrow, linear leaves and displays distinctive pink to mauve flowers with long, protruding styles, giving them a spider-like appearance. These blooms are particularly showy during the winter and spring months and attract nectar-feeding birds.
Grevillea sericea is valued for its drought tolerance and unique, ornamental flowers which make it a popular choice for rockeries, native gardens, and as a low-maintenance feature shrub in urban landscapes. It thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers well-drained soils, tolerating both medium and fast drainage. While it requires low amounts of water once established, regular watering during extended dry periods will keep it looking its best. This shrub is generally pest-resistant but can be affected by root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils. It is not known for being invasive when grown outside its native range.CC BY-SA 4.0
