Summary
Grevillea synapheae, commonly known as Catkin Grevillea, is an evergreen shrub endemic to the sandy and gravelly soils of coastal and inland heathlands in the southwest of Western Australia. It typically grows to a height of 0.2 to 1.5 meters (7.9 inches to 4 feet 11.1 inches) and is characterized by its prickly foliage and cream or white flowers that appear in axillary or terminal racemes, peaking between July and October (mid-winter to mid-spring) in its native range. The flowers are not particularly showy but are valued for their wildlife benefits.
Catkin Grevillea is appreciated for its drought tolerance, ability to thrive in soils with high lime content, and its utility as a low ornamental shrub. It is commonly used for wide verges, median strips, open locations, and as a low hedge or barrier when planted in numbers. It also serves as groundcover in reserves and parks. This shrub is a significant bird attractor, providing both food and habitat. While it can tolerate medium frost, it requires well-drained soil and can grow in part shade to full sun. Gardeners should be cautious as it can cause skin irritations.CC BY-SA 4.0
