Estimated Native Range
Summary
Grevillea treueriana, commonly known as Mount Finke Grevillea, is an evergreen shrub native to the arid shrublands and rocky outcrops of the Flinders Ranges in South Australia. It typically grows to about 2 meters in height and width, with a rounded and dense habit. The species is characterized by its deeply lobed, linear leaves with sharp points, which can be a deterrent to browsing animals. The bright, orange-red "toothbrush" flowers are prominent in winter and spring, attracting nectar-feeding birds and insects, and adding a splash of color to the garden during cooler months.
Mount Finke Grevillea is valued for its drought tolerance and striking flowers, making it suitable for xeriscaping and as a feature plant in water-wise gardens. It can be grafted onto rootstocks of Grevillea robusta or Grevillea ’Poorinda Royal Mantle’ to improve adaptability to different climates, particularly those with higher humidity and rainfall. Propagation is possible through cuttings from the current season’s growth or from seed that has been scarified with a sharp knife to aid germination. This species thrives in full sun or part shade and requires very low to low water once established, preferring soils with medium to fast drainage. It is not commonly affected by diseases, but root rot can occur in poorly drained soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
