Summary
Heliomeris multiflora, commonly known as Showy Goldeneye, is a deciduous perennial subshrub or herb that is native to open woodlands, grasslands, and meadows in the southern Intermountain region of the United States and northern Mexico. It typically grows up to 15 cm (5.9 in) tall and is well adapted to arid environments with its large taproot. The leaves are lanceolate, up to 16 cm (6.3 in) long, with hairs along the edges that help reduce water loss. From late summer to fall, Showy Goldeneye produces numerous bright yellow flower heads, each with 12-14 ray flowers encircling 50 or more tiny disc flowers, creating a striking display that attracts pollinators.
Showy Goldeneye is valued for its drought tolerance and vibrant yellow blooms that add color to xeriscapes, rock gardens, and naturalized areas. It is a low-maintenance plant that thrives in full sun and can handle a range of soil types, provided they have good drainage. While it prefers low to medium amounts of water, it can tolerate dry conditions once established.
