Estimated Native Range
Summary
Heterotheca sessiliflora, commonly known as Sessileflower False Goldenaster, is an evergreen perennial herb or subshrub native to a variety of habitats including open woodlands, grasslands, and scrub areas in California and Baja California. It typically grows to a height of 0.7-0.9 feet (0.2-0.3 meters) and spreads to about 2 feet (0.6 meters) wide. This plant is characterized by its small clumping or mat-forming habit and is covered in small bristles or long woolly hairs, which are particularly glandular around the inflorescence. The flower heads are composed of long yellowish disc florets surrounded by a fringe of yellow ray florets, blooming year-round and providing a continuous display of color.
Sessileflower False Goldenaster is valued for its drought tolerance and long flowering season, making it an excellent choice for xeriscaping and naturalistic plantings. It is also used for erosion control and as a ground cover in dry, challenging sites. In cultivation, it thrives in full sun to part shade and requires minimal water once established, adapting well to a range of soil types with varying drainage. While it is generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered.CC BY-SA 4.0
