Summary
Heuchera richardsonii, commonly known as Richardson’s Alumroot, is a semi-evergreen perennial herb native to a variety of habitats including prairies, open woodlands, and rocky bluffs in the Central USA and Canada. It typically grows to a height and width of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters). Richardson’s Alumroot has a mounding form with scalloped, rounded leaves that can add texture to garden compositions. The small, bell-shaped greenish-white flowers bloom on tall, slender stems in late spring to early summer and are not particularly showy, but they do attract pollinators.
This plant is valued for its foliage, which remains attractive throughout the growing season, and for its adaptability to a range of garden conditions. It is often used in border plantings, rock gardens, and as ground cover. Richardson’s Alumroot is drought-tolerant once established, making it suitable for xeriscaping. It prefers well-drained soils and can tolerate both full sun and part shade, though in hotter climates, it benefits from some afternoon shade. There are no major pest or disease problems associated with Heuchera richardsonii, but it can suffer from root rot in poorly drained soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
