Estimated Native Range
Summary
Heuchera rubescens var. versicolor, commonly known as Pink Alumroot or Coral Bells, is a perennial herb that is native to the Southwestern United States, particularly thriving in the understory of coniferous forests, on rocky slopes, and in cliff crevices. It typically grows at a moderate rate to a height of 0.5-1.5 feet (0.15-0.5 meters) and a width of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters). Pink Alumroot has rounded, lobed leaves and produces slender, upright stems bearing panicles of small, bell-shaped flowers that are pink or red and quite showy, blooming in the summer months.
This plant is valued for its attractive foliage and flowers, which add color and texture to shaded garden areas. It is often used in border plantings, rock gardens, and woodland gardens. Pink Alumroot is also appreciated for its ease of maintenance and its ability to attract hummingbirds and butterflies. In cultivation, it requires well-drained soils, such as clay, loam, or sandy soils, and does best in full to partial shade with medium amounts of water. While it is generally pest-resistant, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly draining soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
