Estimated Native Range
Summary
Hosta minor, commonly known as Dwarf Hosta, is a perennial herb native to the forest floors and shaded areas of Korea. It is one of the smallest hostas, reaching only 6 to 8 inches (15-20 cm) in height and spreading 12 to 18 inches (30-45 cm) wide. Hosta minor forms a dense clump of heart-shaped, rich green leaves with a slightly rippled margin. In mid to late summer, it produces slender stalks bearing bell-shaped, lavender flowers that are modestly showy. The plant is deciduous, dying back in winter before re-emerging in spring.
Dwarf Hosta is appreciated for its compact size, making it an excellent choice for small gardens, rockeries, and as a ground cover in shaded areas. It is also popular in container plantings and for edging paths. This hosta variety is low maintenance, thriving in part to full shade and preferring consistently moist, well-drained soil. It is generally pest-resistant, although slugs and snails can be a problem. Hosta minor is not known for aggressive roots or significant disease issues. It is, however, important to provide adequate space between plants to ensure good air circulation and reduce the risk of foliar diseases.CC BY-SA 4.0
