Estimated Native Range
Summary
Hypericum revolutum, commonly known as Curry Bush, is an evergreen shrub native to a variety of habitats including grasslands, open woodlands, and forests in Southeast Nigeria to Bioko, Eritrea to East South Africa, and the Southwest Arabian Peninsula. It typically grows to a height of 2-4 feet and a width of 3 feet. The Curry Bush is characterized by its single bright yellow flowers that form at the ends of branches, each up to 5 cm in diameter, blooming from June to November. The flowers are showy and attract pollinators. After flowering, it produces a reddish-brown capsule fruit, up to 13 × 10 mm, which adds to its ornamental value.
The Curry Bush is valued for its long flowering season and the bright yellow blooms that can enhance the aesthetics of a garden. It is often used in border planting, as a ground cover, or in rock gardens due to its low stature and adaptability. This shrub is drought-tolerant, making it suitable for xeriscaping and gardens with low water availability. It thrives in full sun to part shade and prefers soils with fast drainage. While generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils and may require protection from frost in colder climates.CC BY-SA 4.0
