Summary

Impatiens omeiana, commonly known as Hardy Impatiens, is a perennial herb native to the forest floors and shaded stream banks in the mountainous regions of Sichuan, China. It typically grows up to 20 inches (half a meter) tall and is recognized for its attractive, elongated, deep green leaves with a silvery stripe down the center. The plant produces large, yellow, slipper-shaped flowers from late summer to early fall, which are quite showy and add a splash of color to shady garden areas.

Hardy Impatiens is valued for its ornamental foliage and flowers, as well as its adaptability to cooler climates compared to other Impatiens species. It is often used in shaded garden beds, woodland gardens, and as ground cover. This species prefers consistently moist, well-drained soil and thrives in part to full shade conditions. While it is generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to downy mildew and should not be overwatered. ’Eco Hardy’ and ’Ice Storm’ are popular garden cultivars known for their robust growth and attractive foliage.CC BY-SA 4.0
