Summary
Indigofera kirilowii, commonly known as Kirilow Indigo, is a deciduous shrub native to a variety of habitats including forest margins, open woodlands, and grassy slopes in eastern, central, and northern China, the Korean Peninsula, and Kyushu island of Japan. It typically grows to about 30 inches tall and is hardy in USDA zones 5 through 7. Kirilow Indigo has a bushy habit with compound leaves that are pinnate with oval leaflets. From late spring to early fall, it produces racemes of pea-like flowers that are most commonly pink, adding a long-lasting splash of color to the garden.
This plant is valued for its long flowering season and the soft texture its foliage adds to garden compositions. It is often used in border plantings, as a specimen in garden beds, or for naturalizing in informal areas. Kirilow Indigo is relatively low-maintenance, requiring well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. It is drought-tolerant once established and does not have significant disease or pest problems. However, it may require protection from harsh winter winds in the colder parts of its growing range.CC BY-SA 4.0
