Summary

Jasminum grandiflorum, commonly known as Spanish Jasmine, is a semi-deciduous vine or scrambling shrub native to South and Southeast Asia, and is widely cultivated in Mediterranean climates. It can grow 2–4 meters tall, with a spread of up to 2 meters. The leaves are opposite, 5–12 cm long, pinnate with 5–11 leaflets, and the plant may lose some leaves in cooler climates or during dry periods. The highly fragrant flowers are produced in open cymes; they are white with a corolla that has a basal tube 13–25 mm long and five lobes 13–22 mm long. The blooming season is typically in the spring and summer, and the flowers are exceptionally showy due to their fragrance and abundance.

Spanish Jasmine is celebrated for its intensely fragrant flowers, which are used in perfumery and to make jasmine tea. It is often grown on arbors, trellises, and fences in gardens and can be used as a houseplant. This plant prefers full sun but can tolerate partial shade, and it requires medium amounts of water with well-draining soil. While it is relatively easy to maintain, it can be susceptible to pests such as aphids and scale insects. Pruning is necessary to maintain its shape and promote flowering.CC BY-SA 4.0
