Kalanchoe beauverdii, commonly known as Beauverd’s Widow’s-Thrill, is an evergreen succulent, native to the rocky and arid regions of Madagascar. It is not a vine but rather a climbing succulent that can reach heights of 4-8 feet (1.2-2.4 meters) with a spread of about 1 foot (0.3 meters). This species typically has slender, wiry stems with leaves that are cylindrical and often curved or twisted. The flowers of Kalanchoe beauverdii are green, but they are notable for their campanulate (bell-shaped) form and appear in clusters along the stems in winter and spring, adding interest during a season when few other plants bloom.

Beauverd’s Widow’s-Thrill is appreciated for its unique foliage and flowers, as well as its ability to thrive with minimal care, making it an excellent choice for rock gardens, xeriscaping, and as a container plant for sunny patios. It requires minimal water once established, reflecting its adaptation to arid environments, and prefers well-draining soil to prevent root rot. It thrives in full sun but can tolerate light shade.
