Kalanchoe rotundifolia, commonly known as Common Kalanchoe, Natal Kalanchoe, or Round-Leaf Kalanchoe, is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to rocky outcrops and grasslands of Southern Africa. It typically grows at a moderate rate to a height and width of 0.5-1.5 feet (0.15-0.5 meters). This succulent plant features fleshy, rounded leaves that are often tinged with red, and it produces clusters of tubular yellow flowers in the spring, which are moderately showy. The plant’s ability to store water in its leaves allows it to thrive in arid conditions.

Kalanchoe rotundifolia is valued for its drought tolerance and is often used in rock gardens, as a container plant, or as an indoor houseplant. It is appreciated for its ease of maintenance and the interesting texture its succulent leaves add to plantings. In cultivation, it requires full sun to part shade and prefers fast-draining sandy or loamy soils. It is tolerant of low water conditions, making it suitable for xeriscaping.
