Estimated Native Range
Summary
Keckiella breviflora, commonly known as Bush Beardtongue, is a deciduous subshrub or shrub native to the chaparral and open woodlands of California and forest edges in Nevada. It typically grows to a height of 2-4 feet (0.6-1.2 meters) and a width of 3 feet (0.9 meters). The plant has a compact form with tall inflorescences that are loose, glandular spikes of flowers, appearing in spring and summer. Each flower is one to two centimeters wide, with five lobes that are pale pink or pinkish-streaked white, and their external surfaces are adorned with long, shiny hairs, making the flowers quite showy.
Bush Beardtongue is valued for its drought tolerance and its attractive, tubular flowers that attract hummingbirds and other pollinators. It is used in xeriscaping, native plant gardens, and as a border planting. This plant thrives in full sun and requires low amounts of water, making it suitable for gardens with fast-draining soils. While it is generally easy to maintain, it can be susceptible to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly draining soils.CC BY-SA 4.0
