Summary

Kleinia petraea, commonly known as Creeping Jade, is an evergreen succulent native to rocky outcrops and dry scrublands of Eastern Africa. It typically reaches a height of 0.3 feet (0.09 meters) and spreads out to about 0.7 feet (0.2 meters). This plant forms a mat of fleshy, blue-green leaves that provide a unique texture in the garden. The orange, daisy-like flowers bloom in the fall and summer, adding a splash of color and are moderately showy.

Creeping Jade is valued for its drought tolerance and ease of maintenance, making it an excellent choice for water-wise gardens. It is commonly used as ground cover, in rock gardens, or displayed in hanging baskets to showcase its trailing habit. It thrives in full sun and requires very low to low amounts of water once established. Well-draining soil is crucial to prevent root rot. While generally pest-free, it can occasionally suffer from mealybugs or fungal diseases in overly moist conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
