Summary
Koeleria glauca, commonly known as Blue Hair Grass or Large Blue Hair Grass, is a semi-deciduous perennial grass native to temperate grasslands, meadows, and open areas in Europe to Mongolia. It typically grows to a height of 0.5-2 feet (15-60 cm) and a width of 0.5-1 foot (15-30 cm). This ornamental grass is appreciated for its fine-textured, blue-green foliage that forms dense, tufted mounds and its delicate, airy flower panicles that appear in early to midsummer.
Blue Hair Grass is valued for its drought tolerance and its ability to thrive in poor soils, making it a suitable choice for rock gardens, borders, and xeriscaping. It is also used in mass plantings for a textured ground cover effect. While it prefers full sun, it can tolerate light shade. It is generally low-maintenance, requiring minimal water once established and is not prone to serious pest or disease problems. However, it may self-seed in ideal conditions and could require management to prevent unwanted spread.CC BY-SA 4.0
