Estimated Native Range
Summary
Lechenaultia floribunda, commonly known as free-flowering leschenaultia, is a perennial subshrub native to heathlands, scrublands, and woodlands in the southwest of Western Australia. It is particularly adapted to the unique conditions of the Avon Wheatbelt, Carnarvon, Geraldton Sandplains, Jarrah Forest, Swan Coastal Plain, and Warren bioregions. This openly-branched plant typically grows up to 3 feet 3 inches high and is characterized by its narrow, fleshy leaves. From August to December, it produces an abundance of flowers that range in color from pale blue to pale mauve or creamy white, which are highly attractive to pollinators.
Free-flowering leschenaultia is valued for its long blooming period and vibrant flowers, making it a popular choice for ornamental gardens, rockeries, and as a border plant. It is well-suited to Mediterranean climates and requires well-drained soils, moderate water, and full sun to part shade to thrive. While it is not considered threatened in its native range, it can be sensitive to root rot if overwatered or planted in poorly drained soils. Gardeners appreciate this species for its low maintenance requirements and its ability to attract bees and butterflies.CC BY-SA 4.0
