Estimated Native Range
Summary
Leptospermum grandiflorum, commonly known as Large Flower Tea Tree, is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to the cool temperate rainforests and wet sclerophyll forests of Tasmania. It can reach a height of 1.5–5 meters (4 ft 11 in – 16 ft 5 in) and is characterized by its densely-branched habit, rough bark on older branches, and whitish young stems. The Large Flower Tea Tree is notable for its large, showy white flowers that bloom in the summer and fall, attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
This species is valued for its ornamental flowers and as a low-maintenance plant in gardens. It is often used in urban landscaping, as a feature specimen, and for creating informal hedges or screens. The Large Flower Tea Tree thrives in full sun and can tolerate low water conditions once established, making it suitable for xeriscaping. It prefers well-drained soils and can adapt to a range of soil types, from sandy to loamy. While generally disease-resistant, it can be susceptible to root rot in poorly drained soils. It is also frost-tolerant, which makes it a versatile choice for cooler climates.CC BY-SA 4.0
