Summary

Lilium canadense, commonly known as Canada Lily, is a perennial herbaceous plant native to moist meadows, marsh edges, and damp woodlands of eastern North America. It can grow to a height of 0.5-1.5 meters and produces showy flowers that are 50–75 mm wide. The flowers, which are quite striking, come in shades of yellow, orange, or red, often with darker spots, and are nodding, giving the plant a distinctive appearance. They typically bloom in June and July, adding a splash of color to the garden during this period.

The Canada Lily is valued for its tall, graceful stems and vibrant, downward-facing flowers, which can add vertical interest to borders and wildflower gardens. It is also a favorite among pollinators, attracting butterflies and hummingbirds. This lily prefers full sun to part shade and requires consistently moist soil with good drainage to thrive. It is not drought-tolerant and may need additional watering during dry spells. While generally easy to grow, it can be susceptible to lily leaf beetle and deer browsing. Gardeners should be aware of these potential problems and may need to take preventive measures to protect the plants.CC BY-SA 4.0
