Linaria vulgaris, commonly known as Common Toadflax or Butter-and-Eggs, is a perennial herb that is native to a variety of habitats including grasslands, roadsides, and open woodlands across Europe, Siberia, and Central Asia. It typically grows to a height of 6-35 inches (15-90 cm) with a slender form. The plant features narrow, threadlike, blue-green leaves and produces showy pale yellow flowers with an orange palate from late spring to fall. These snapdragon-like flowers are highly attractive to pollinators such as bumblebees and provide a nectar source for many insects.

Common Toadflax is valued for its ease of maintenance and its ability to thrive in a range of conditions, including poor soils. It is often used in wildflower gardens, as a border plant, or in naturalized areas. In cultivation, it prefers full sun to part shade and can tolerate dry to medium moisture levels in well-drained soils. While it is a resilient plant, it can be susceptible to rust and powdery mildew. Gardeners should be cautious as Linaria vulgaris can become invasive outside its native range due to its vigorous self-seeding, and it may outcompete native vegetation.CC BY-SA 4.0
