Estimated Native Range
Summary
Lindernia grandiflora, commonly known as Blue Moneywort, is an annual herb native to wetlands and marshy areas in the Southeastern United States. It typically grows to a height of 0.5 feet (0.2 meters) and can spread to about 2 feet (0.6 meters), forming a low mat of foliage. The plant is characterized by its small, oval to lance-shaped leaves and produces showy, purple flowers with a two-lipped corolla throughout the summer and into the fall.
Blue Moneywort is valued for its ability to thrive in wet conditions and is often used in water gardens, rain gardens, and as a ground cover in moist, shaded areas. It is also appreciated for its long blooming period and the vibrant color it adds to the landscape. Gardeners should provide it with consistently moist to wet soil, and it can even tolerate shallow, standing water. While it prefers full sun to part shade, it will bloom more profusely with greater light exposure. Despite its preference for wet conditions, it is relatively low maintenance once established. However, it can be susceptible to root rot if drainage is inadequate in non-aquatic settings.CC BY-SA 4.0
