Estimated Native Range
Summary
Lobelia angulata, commonly known as Creeping Pratia or Panakenake, is an evergreen perennial herb native to a variety of habitats in New Zealand, including coastal and lowland forests, grasslands, and bogs. It typically forms a low, spreading mat reaching 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters) in height and 3-6 feet (0.9-1.8 meters) in width. The plant features small, bright green leaves and produces a profusion of small, star-shaped white flowers from spring to fall, which are particularly showy en masse.
Creeping Pratia is valued for its ground-covering ability, creating a dense carpet that suppresses weeds and provides a continuous cover of foliage and flowers. It is ideal for rock gardens, borders, and underplanting beneath taller plants. This plant thrives in moist, well-drained soils and can tolerate partial shade, although it flowers best in full sun. It is relatively low maintenance but benefits from occasional trimming to keep it looking tidy. While generally disease-free, it can be susceptible to root rot in overly wet conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
