Estimated Native Range
Summary
Lonicera reticulata, commonly known as Grape Honeysuckle, is a deciduous perennial vine or shrub native to the forest edges and scrublands of Southeastern China. It typically grows to a height of 0.7-1 feet (0.2-0.3 meters) and spreads 3-5 feet (0.9-1.5 meters), making it a relatively low-growing variety of honeysuckle. The plant features oval to lance-shaped leaves and bears creamy white or yellow flowers that age to pink in late spring, which are modestly showy and attract pollinators. After flowering, it may produce small, inedible red berries that provide visual interest and can attract birds.
Grape Honeysuckle is appreciated for its ability to cover ground quickly, making it useful for erosion control and as a ground cover in garden settings. It is also suitable for trellises or fences where its twining habit can be showcased. This plant is relatively low-maintenance, tolerating a range of soil types, though it prefers well-drained soils. It can thrive in full sun to part shade, and once established, it has low water requirements. While not commonly reported to have serious disease or pest problems, powdery mildew and leaf spot can occasionally affect the plant.CC BY-SA 4.0
