Estimated Native Range
Summary
Lysimachia lanceolata, commonly known as Lanceleaf Loosestrife, is a deciduous perennial herb native to open woodlands, meadows, and along stream banks in the Eastern United States. It typically grows to a height of 2 feet (0.6 meters) and a width of 1-2 feet (0.3-0.6 meters). The plant has a clumping form with lance-shaped leaves and upright stems. Lanceleaf Loosestrife blooms in late spring to early summer, producing small, star-shaped, yellow flowers that are quite showy against the foliage.
Lanceleaf Loosestrife is valued for its ease of maintenance and its ability to thrive in moist environments, making it suitable for rain gardens and naturalized areas. It is also used in border plantings and as a ground cover. This species prefers consistently moist to wet soils and can tolerate part shade conditions, although it flowers best in full sun. It is not known for any significant disease or pest issues, but can spread aggressively in ideal conditions, potentially becoming invasive. Gardeners should be aware of its spreading habit and manage it accordingly to prevent unwanted naturalization.CC BY-SA 4.0
