Summary

Micranthes oregana, commonly known as Oregon saxifrage, is a perennial herb native to moist meadows, seeps, and the edges of streams and rivers in western North America. It grows from a thick caudex, forming a basal rosette of linear to lance-shaped leaves that can reach up to 10 inches in length. The plant sends up a stout peduncle, often exceeding 3 feet in height, which is topped with clusters of small, white-petaled flowers that bloom from late spring to early summer. The flowers are modest yet attractive to pollinators.

Oregon saxifrage is valued for its ability to thrive in wet, challenging conditions where other plants might not succeed, making it suitable for rain gardens and areas with poor drainage. It is also used to stabilize soil in riparian restoration projects. This plant prefers consistently moist soils and can tolerate partial shade, though it will also grow in full sun if sufficient moisture is available. While generally low-maintenance, it can be susceptible to rust and leaf spot diseases in overly wet conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
