Estimated Native Range
Summary
Muscari armeniacum, commonly known as Armenian Grape Hyacinth, is a deciduous perennial bulb native to rocky, open woodlands and subalpine meadows in the Eastern Mediterranean, particularly Turkey, and the Caucasus region. It typically grows to a height of 0.5-0.8 feet (15-25 cm) and a width of 0.3-0.5 feet (9-15 cm). This plant forms dense clusters of narrow, basal leaves, with upright flower spikes that bear small, urn-shaped flowers. The flowers are most commonly a deep cobalt blue but can also be found in shades of pink, purple, and white, blooming in early to mid-spring. The blooms are highly attractive to bees and other pollinators.
Armenian Grape Hyacinth is valued for its vibrant spring flowers, which make it a popular choice for rock gardens, borders, underplanting beneath deciduous trees, and naturalizing in grassy areas. It is relatively low maintenance, multiplying over time to form impressive drifts. For best results, plant in well-drained soil and provide consistent moisture during the growing season. It tolerates a range of light conditions from full sun to part shade. While generally pest-free, it can be susceptible to bulb rot if planted in overly wet conditions.CC BY-SA 4.0
