Estimated Native Range
Summary
Myosotis ramosissima, commonly known as Early Forget-Me-Not or Scorpion grass, is a perennial herb native to temperate regions of Europe. It is typically found in a variety of habitats including grasslands, open woodlands, and heathlands, often on calcareous soils. This plant grows at a moderate rate to a height and width of 0.2-0.5 feet (0.06-0.15 meters), forming a low, mounding tuft. The leaves are small and oblong, and the plant is well-known for its charming, tiny blue flowers with yellow centers that bloom profusely in the spring and early summer. The flowers are arranged in coiled clusters that uncoil as the flowers open, hence the name "Scorpion grass".
Early Forget-Me-Not is valued for its early spring bloom and its ability to naturalize in suitable conditions, creating a carpet of blue in the garden. It is often used in rock gardens, borders, and as an underplanting for spring bulbs. This plant is relatively low-maintenance, requiring medium amounts of water and thriving in medium or fast-draining loam or sandy soils. It prefers full sun to part shade and can tolerate a range of soil pH levels. While generally disease-free, it can suffer from powdery mildew in overly moist conditions. It is also known for self-seeding, which can be both a benefit for naturalization and a concern for potential invasiveness in some areas.CC BY-SA 4.0
