Summary

Nissolia schottii, commonly known as Schott’s Yellowhood, is a semi-deciduous perennial vine or herb native to thorn scrub and tropical deciduous forests in the Southwestern United States and Northwest Mexico. It can grow to a height of 4-12 feet (1.2-3.7 meters) and a width of 4-8 feet (1.2-2.4 meters), with a sprawling habit that allows it to cover ground or climb structures. Schott’s Yellowhood produces bright yellow, pea-like flowers in the summer and spring, which are moderately showy and attract pollinators.

This plant is valued for its ability to thrive in hot climates and its relatively low water requirements once established, making it suitable for xeriscaping and naturalistic plantings. It is also used for covering trellises, fences, and other structures in gardens. Schott’s Yellowhood prefers full sun to part shade and does best in well-drained soils. It is not commonly affected by diseases but may require occasional pruning to maintain shape and encourage flowering.CC BY-SA 4.0
